Rare Black Sea Glass Pendant Necklace, EVELIA

What a lucky find!  "Black" sea glass!  This piece is a segment of a bottleneck.

Black sea glass in very old and very rare and probably began it's life as a rum bottle. The black, near opaque colour helped protect the contents from spoilage as it cut down on light exposure.

When sea glass collecting it is very difficult to tell the difference between a piece of very dark frosted sea glass and the pebbles on the beach. (I've probably passed plenty of pieces and never realised - have to look closer :))

Black sea glass is actually very very dark green, brown or teal when held up to the light, but against your skin it's black.

This piece if very very dark green and was found on my local beach on the Northumberland Coast of England.

Sea glass measures approximately 3/4 inch

Sterling silver 16, 18 or 20 inch curb chain
